Those damn yellow minions have stormed the US box office this weekend, taking the top spot with $115 million, finally dethroning the dynamic duo Inside Out and Jurassic World of the top 2 spots at the weekend box office which they have held for the last 3 weeks together. Minions is now boasts the second highest opening weekend ever for an animated film, falling short of Shrek the Third’s $122 million.
In second place was Jurassic World, making a sweet $18 million this weekend, Jurassic World should crack the $600 million domestically by the end of next weekend being only the fourth film to do it, joining the ranks of Titanic, The Avengers and Avatar.
In third was Inside Out making $17 million for the weekend and falling down 2 spots from first last weekend. In fourth was Terminator: Genisys, which continues to under perform making only $13 million in its second weekend of release, it isn’t looking promising. Rounding out the top 5 is new horror film The Gallows, which scared up a nice $10 million opening weekend.
1. Minions- $115 million.
2. Jurassic World- $18 million.
3. Inside Out- $17 million.
4. Terminator Genisys- $13 million.
5. The Gallows- $10 million.
So how did I go in my predictions? I got 4/5, that’s way better than last week, the only one I got wrong was that I had Self/Less in fifth place instead of The Gallows, pro tip, never under estimate a horror film ;).
