Ant-Man has propelled to the top of the Australian box office charts, with the Paul Rudd led film taking in $5.3 million over the weekend. This adds to the $113 million global haul the film has already made in its first weekend of release. This is a great result for Marvel down under given the unknown factor of the Ant-Man character.
In second was Magic Mike XXL doing good business down under making $2.3 million in its second weekend of release. Magic Mike has moved up a spot from last weekend going from third to second.
In third was the other new release along with Ant-Man Paper Towns, the Nat Wolff, Cara Delevingne led film took in $1.9 million. This isn’t the greatest result for the film that is skewed at teens, Magic Mike definitely would have taken the hit out of the film down under.
Rounding out the top 5 was Inside Out and Minions taking pretty big hits from last weekend with school going back this past week. Inside Out made $1.6 million and Minions made $1.4 million.
It is worth noting that Jurassic World has finally dropped out of the top 5 in Australia after ruling the box office for 3 weeks when it released and then continuing to hang around for a couple weeks more, but the film still made a good $1.1 million this weekend.
