Dethroning the reigning box office champ of 2 weeks Ant-Man this week was the new Tom Cruise led Mission: Impossible film Rogue Nation. Rogue Nation opened with an estimated $56 million for the weekend, easily taking first place. This is the second best opening for the Mission: Impossible franchise only behind the $70.8 million opening of Mission: Impossible 2 back in 2000. Rogue Nation also enjoyed the best opening day for a Mission: Impossible film with $20.3 million. This estimated $56 million adds to an international total of $116 million for the weekend, not bad.
In second was new release Vacation which opened mid week and made $14.9 million for the weekend. Which adds to its 5 day total of $21.1 million. Not looking good for the film.
In third was Ant-Man, moving down 2 spots with an estimated $12.6 million. In fourth was Minions with an estimated $12.2 million. And rounding out the top 5 is Pixels, continuing to disappoint making $10.4 million.
1. Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation- $56 million.
2. Vacation- $14.9 million.
3. Ant-Man- $12.6 million.
4. Minions- $12.2 million.
5. Pixels- $10.4 million.
So how was my predictions? I got 3/5. Not bad, I was spot on with the top 3 placements, I didn’t think Rogue Nation would make that much money nor did I think Vacation would do so poorly. I thought Ant-Man would do a little better also. Where I got it wrong was I thought Pixels would beat Minions, clearly not.
