Hotel Transylvania 2 has come out swinging this weekend at the US box office setting a new box office record for the month of September. Hotel Transylvania 2 debuted with an estimated $47.5 million, a great score for Sony who has had a less than stellar year so far. This debut is a record for an opening weekend in September.
In second was The Intern, starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro. The film debuted with a strong $18.2 million for Warner.
In third was Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials taking in a solid $14 million in its second weekend of release.
In fourth was Everest, slipping on the mountain making an estimated $13 million after going wide this weekend.
Rounding out the top 5 was Black Mass taking in an estimated $11.5 million.
- Hotel Transylvania 2- $47.5 million.
- The Intern- $18.2 million.
- Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials- $14 million.
- Everest- $13 million.
- Black Mass- $11.5 million.
So how did I go in my predictions? I got 2/5. I was certain that I had a 5/5 but it wasn’t to be. I got the first 2 right but the rest wrong. I thought Everest would have a stronger debut and that Black Mass would have a better second weekend given the buzz.
