Creed, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone has arrived and its the best film I’ve seen so far this year.
The story is so incredible. It’s such an emotional and impactful journey and story. It’s told so beautifully and I find it hard to fault it. They really make you feel for these characters and root for them to succeed. By the end of the film I had tears in my eyes and was all chocked up which has never happened to me in a film.
The main plot was fantastic. The under dog story of Adonis and him trying to live up to the Creed name is fantastic. He goes through a bunch of stuff to get to where he is at the end of the film and its such a great and rewarding ending for both him and the audience.
The whole Rocky sub plot was really emotional. I wasn’t expecting what his plot is but it leads to some of the best stuff in the film.
The Bianca sub plot with Adonis was good as well. Its the weakest sub plot in the film but its still stronger than any plot in most films. The chemistry between the two actors is great and that really helps sell the plot.
The directing by Ryan Coogler is the real stand out though. The man does no wrong here and brings the best out of all his actors. The boxing scenes in particular are fantastic and capture the atmosphere of boxing perfectly. Stallone and Jordan are also fantastic in the film and give some of the best performances of the year.
To anyone who hasn’t watched any of the Rocky films (Me) don’t feel like you won’t understand things in the film. Creed stands on its own and you can get as much enjoyment as you would if you were a hardcore Rocky fan.
Even if you’re not a boxing fan like myself Creed is an incredibly fantastic film that is pretty much faultless. Go see this film.
