Star Wars: The Force Awakens done exactly what everyone predicted and that’s shatter records.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens made an estimated $238 million for the weekend, absolutely smashing the previous record holder Jurassic World which made $208.8 million back in June.
The Force Awakens so far has a global total of $517 million, the second best opening for a film worldwide and that’s without the second highest grossing territory China.
The Force Awakens also broke the record for Thursday midnight showings with $57 million and also set a new Friday opening record with the film making $120 million on Friday alone.
Getting away from The Force Awakens now, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, also opening this weekend made $14.4 million, not bad considering the competition.
In third was Sisters, also opening this weekend making $13.4 million. In fourth was The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 making $5.7 million. And rounding out the top 5 was Creed making $5.1 million.
