After Star Wars: The Force Awakens smashed the biggest opening weekend record for a film in Australia last weekend, the film stayed on top over the Christmas weekend. Star Wars: The Force Awakens took in $8.5 million, a 58% drop from last weekend. All cinemas were closed on Friday though, so it was only a 2 day weekend.
In second was Daddy’s Home, debuting strong with $2 million. In third was The Good Dinosaur, having a decent opening with $1.4 million. In fourth was Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, debuting with $1.1 million. And rounding out the top 5 was Joy, debuting with $1 million.
