Star Wars: The Force Awakens once again has topped the US box office this weekend but it was close.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens made an estimated $41.6 million for the weekend, pushing its domestic total to $812 million, the first film to ever make over $800 million in the US. Globally The Force Awakens pushed past Jurassic World to become the third highest grossing film of all time, its global total is currently sitting at $1.73 billion.
In second was The Revenant, doing way above expectations and challenging Star Wars for the top spot. The Revenant made an estimated $38 million for the weekend. The Revenant can also hold to its name the first film to beat Star Wars at the daily box office where it won Friday.
In third was Daddy’s Home, continuing its strong box office run making an estimated $15 million in its third weekend of release. In fourth was new release The Forest, the horror film starring Natalie Dormer made an estimated $13.1 million. And rounding out the top 5 was Sisters, hanging around making an estimated $7.2 million.
