Kung Fu Panda 3 easily maintained its top spot at the box office thanks to a soft weekend for all newcomers. Kung Fu Panda 3 took in an estimated $21 million.
In second was the new Coen Brothers film Hail, Caesar! which opened with an estimated $11.4 million, the lowest Coen Brothers directed film opening. In third was The Revenant, taking in $7.1 million.
In fourth was Star Wars: The Force Awakens taking in an estimated $6.9 million pushing its domestic total to over $900 million, the first film to ever cross that milestone. This weekend the film also passed $2 billion worldwide, only the third film in history to achieve that milestone.
And rounding out the top 5 was the Nicholas Spark romance The Choice with $6.1 million. The other big new release film Pride, Prejudice and Zombies bombed hard only taking in $5.2 million for the weekend and settling for sixth place.
